We get asked this all the time: We compute charges based on a formula that includes
- the estimated total finished minutes in your project and
- the cost of different types of media and
shipping materials to protect them, and
- the cost of handling and shipping your movie
film,
digital masters, and DVD -- in 3 phases -- back to you.
We feel this is the fairest and least expensive way to do it -- not the easiest.
- Every project is different.
- Some projects have damaged movie film, which takes longer, and
- Some have many little reels - harder to work with than bigger reels; and,
- Some projects need to be treated as 2 or 3 separate projects -- for different segments of the family, etc.
That's why we give customized price quotes and need to know
the following:To determine your splicing and reel
consolidation needs:
- your total number of reels
- broken out by reel sizes.
To determine specialized capture and synchronization needs:
- total feet of Regular/Standard 8mm film
- total feet of Super 8 film and
- if you have sound film, how many feet of your Super 8 film (above) are Super
8 SOUND film.
We also discount by volume -- the more reels you have the cheaper it is per
finished minute. We feel that once we have covered our initial fixed costs and
our one time only setup charges, you should be allowed discounts considering your volume and our variable cost of additional reels. This effectively allows us to pass production
savings on to clients.
Finally, we only charge $2 per DVD -- which is our
cost -- for each additional set of DVDs.
For example: If your project takes 5 volumes (roughly 1 hour each)
to make up 1 "complete set" of your digitized movie films, then your cost -- per set
-- would be only $10.
- 1 Volume = $2 per extra set
- 2 Volumes = $4 per extra set
- 3 Volumes = $6 per extra set
- etc.
Once we give a quote, we do not have "hidden charges".
Many transfer mills are like the stereotype used car salesman, "Oh, you want an engine in this car, too?" They charge extra for such things as "MiniDV
tapes". Forget about giving you "backups" as part of
their deal.
